Chapter 6: The Interior Painting Process

CertaPro Painter in white shirt painting a high ceiling with a rollerWhen setting out to paint a room, the method you choose can have a significant impact on the process and the outcome. Three standard techniques are rolling, brushing, and spraying, each with its own set of advantages and best-use scenarios.

Rolling Rolling is the most popular method for painting walls. Rolling is efficient for covering large areas quickly and is relatively easy for DIY enthusiasts to master.

Brushing Brushing is the traditional method of painting and is still favored for small areas, edges, corners, and details where rollers and sprayers aren’t as effective.

Spraying Spray painting is a technique that uses a sprayer to atomize the paint into fine droplets, creating a smooth, even coat. It’s ideal for empty homes and buildings.

Spraying also works well for kitchen cabinets as we often remove the doors and drawers and spray them in our warehouse to a hard and smooth finish.
